Swim Instructor – Summer Seasonal

June 29 – August 21, 2026

Summary of Position

The JCC is looking for energetic, focused and committed people who love the water and enjoy working with children to serve as certified Water Safety Instructors (WSIs) in our Aquatics department. This is a seasonal, overtime non-exempt position reporting to the Aquatics Director. Seasonal hours: Monday – Friday from 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide progressive group swim lessons following American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim guidelines along with the current JCC aquatics curriculum
  • Maintain the health and safety of all participants
  • Present oneself in an appropriate and professional manner; wear one-piece swimsuit at all times
  • Represent and promote the JCC in a positive manner
  • Develop and adhere to a block plan prior to the start of the class while adhering to American Red Cross and JCC skill checklists
  • Provide periodic progress reports for each swimmer
  • Commit to full summer season (June 29 – August 21, 2026)
  • Develop and maintain a positive relationship with students
  • Attend and participate in pre-season trainings
  • Maintain current American Red Cross WSI certification

Qualifications and Skills

Lifeguard – Summer Seasonal

The JCC is looking for people who love the water and understand the importance of pool safety to serve as a certified Lifeguard in our Aquatics department. This is a seasonal, overtime non-exempt position reporting to the Aquatics Director. Seasonal hours: Monday – Friday from 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the health and safety of all participants through
    • Continually and properly surveilling all areas of responsibility (indoor pool, outdoor pools, and deck area)
    • Using effective Preventive Lifeguarding as an integral part of this surveillance
    • Educating swimmers of pool rules; enforcing and personally practicing all pool rules and regulations
    • Perform appropriate rescues, including administering first aid/CPR as needed
  • Follow JCC guidelines for opening and closing pools
  • Present oneself in an appropriate and professional manner at all times, including swimsuit, whistle, JCC Lifeguard t-shirt, rescue tube, and shorts
  • Represent and promote the JCC in a positive manner at all times
  • Test the water in the pool at least once every two hours

Lifeguards

Summary of Position

The JCC is looking for a focused and committed individual who loves the water and enjoys working with people of all ages and abilities to serve as a Lifeguard. The programs serve children and adults of all ages. This is a part-time, overtime non-exempt position supervised by the Aquatics Director. Morning and early day shift availability preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the health and safety of participants through
    • Use of continual, proper surveillance techniques, including all areas of responsibility (indoor pool, outdoor pools, deck area)
    • Use of effective Preventive Lifeguarding as an integral part of this surveillance
    • Equal enforcement and personal practice of pool rules and regulations

Camp Yachad

Camp Yachad – Skills Training Director

June 29 - August 21, 2026 (Seasonal)

Camp Yachad’s Skills Training Program is a paid, supported employment program designed for young adults (entering 10th grade and older) with disabilities and/or higher levels of need. Participants in this program are hired as Assistant Specialists and work alongside camp Specialists in areas such as arts, sports, yoga, music, and other program areas while developing both vocational and social skills. The program emphasizes work-readiness skills, responsibility, independence, collaboration, communication, social-emotional growth and increased independence in work and community settings. The Skills Training Program is rooted in inclusion, mentorship, and real-world learning within the dynamic environment of camp.

Summary of Position

The Director of the Skills Training Program is a hands-on leader who is responsible for daily program oversight, mentorship, and actively teaching vocational and workplace social skills to teens and young adults with disabilities in a camp-based work environment. This role combines program leadership with consistent, on-the-ground engagement, supporting participants as they develop workplace readiness, social skills, and independence. Throughout the camp day, the Skills Training Director actively circulates among specialty areas, providing coaching, feedback, and real-time support while modeling professional behavior, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. A core responsibility of this role is offering social skills guidance, including support with communication, flexibility, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, collaboration and performance feedback. The Skills Training Director partners closely with Specialists and Leadership to ensure participants receive consistent support and meaningful work experience. The ideal candidate is calm, approachable, and highly organized, with the ability to balance structure and flexibility in a fast-paced camp setting. This role requires strong judgment, adaptability, and a genuine passion for youth development and inclusive workforce training.

This is a seasonal, full-time, overtime exempt position supervised by the Director of Camp Yachad and supported by the Director of Inclusion and Diversity. This position requires occasional off-site trips.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide daily leadership and supervision to Assistant Specialists within a camp-based work environment
  • Lead daily morning meetings to review schedules, set goals, reinforce expectations, teach skills and support group cohesion
  • Model professional workplace behaviors including communication, teamwork, responsibility, and problem solving

Travel Camp Counselor

June 29 - August 21, 2026 (Seasonal)

The JCC of Central NJ seeks energetic, enthusiastic, and responsible upper-level college students, recent graduates, educators, and emerging professionals to lead a close-knit group of campers ages 10–13 in Camp Yachad’s travel program. Ideal candidates bring experience working with children or teens, demonstrate strong maturity and sound judgment, and are excited to fully participate in all activities alongside campers. This role requires active engagement throughout the day, both indoors and outdoors, and the ability to keep pace with a dynamic, on-the-move schedule.

Overnight stays required during the 4 weeks of camp that have overnight trips booked.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and ensure the health, safety and well-being of campers at all times, whether on the bus, JCC campus or during day or overnight trips
  • Enforce safety procedures, camp rules, and emergency protocols
  • Actively participate in transitions, including boarding/exiting from buses, walk likes, and organized movement between camp areas

The JCC of Central NJ is looking to hire skilled and enthusiastic professionals who enjoy working with children to lead an activity area at Camp Yachad, our camp of 600+ campers. Specialists are considered experts in their activity area who will teach introductory skills to campers and build upon those skills as the summer goes on.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and execute age appropriate lesson plans which includes a supply order
  • Mentor a junior staff member in the job skills training program
  • Ensure overall safety and well-being of campers

General Camp Counselor

Work with a team of 2-3 additional staff overseeing a group of 12-16 campers throughout the camp day. As a counselor, you will get to know your campers well; providing leadership, support, guidance, and fun while going from activity to activity! Each group is led by a college aged (at minimum) Senior Counselor who is partnered with high-school aged Junior Counselors and Counselors in Training. Chaverim groups, in our pre-school unit, are led by college graduates and professional teachers who are supported by college aged Adult Assistants in addition to Junior Counselors.

Inclusion 'Shadow' Counselor

As a partner counselor in the group, shadow counselors work 1:1 with a camper with special needs encouraging camper participation, socialization, and independence. 

Program Specialist

For professional instructors with expertise in a specific area at camp that enjoy working with children. Lead one of our arts, adventure, or athletics programs! Specialists are responsible for creating & executing age-appropriate activities that will teach introductory skills to campers and build upon them as the summer goes on.

Aquatics

Lifeguards & WSI's (Water Safety Instructors) are a key component of the staff. Our aquatics staff teach campers of all ages and varying abilities how to swim and are responsible for the observation and safety of the campers and staff at the pools. Additional certifications are required.

Senior Accounting Manager

Summary of Position

The Senior Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations of the JCC. This role ensures the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of the organization’s financial records and supports strong internal controls and audit readiness. The Senior Accounting Manager partners closely with the Senior Director of Finance, serving as the operational backbone of the Finance Department while enabling the Director to focus on strategy, analysis, and leadership.

This is a 40 hour per week, overtime exempt position reporting to the Senior Director of Finance. Attendance at occasional evening meetings is required.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations & Month-End Close

  • Own and manage the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring deadlines are met with accuracy and consistency
  • Maintain the General Ledger, including journal entries, account analysis, and documentation
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll accounting processes
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations on a regular schedule and assist to resolve discrepancies promptly

Cash Management & Controls

  • Monitor daily cash activity and support cash flow planning
  • Ensure timely processing of payments, deposits, and receipts
  • Maintain strong transaction-level internal controls and documentation standard
  • Support segregation of duties and risk mitigation across financial processes

Grant Accounting & Audit Support

  • Assist with tracking of grant revenues and expenditures in accordance with funder requirements

Systems, Reconciliations & Process Improvement

Collaboration & Support

  • Work collaboratively with program, development, and administrative department leaders to ensure accurate GL coding, expense tracking, and revenue recognition
  • Serve as a financial resource to department heads by helping them understand budgets, monthly P&L reports, and variances
  • Support departments in resolving discrepancies related to expenses, revenue, and program-level financial results
  • Provide timely, accurate financial information to support internal reporting, decision-making, and analysis
  • Partner with the Senior Director of Finance on cross-departmental financial initiatives, ad hoc analyses, and special projects

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting
  • 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience; nonprofit experience preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting practices
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including reconciliations, pivot tables, and financial analysis
  • Demonstrated experience with accounting software platforms (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, Financial Edge, or similar)

Work Environment

The JCC Fitness and Wellness Center is at times fast-paced and at times less busy, with every day being different from the next. JCC members and guests comprise a diverse population with varying needs. Staff must be able to work effectively with people from all different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions. The temperature in the fitness center is kept colder to ensure members are comfortable during exercise, and music is played constantly.

Principal Responsibilities

The JCC of Central NJ seeks part-time evening and weekend certified personal trainers to join our team of fitness professionals. We have opportunities to work with a wide range of clients including seniors, teens, special needs populations and other populations. Trainers will need a professional attitude and a keen understanding of customer service.

Personal Trainers will:

  • Possess the ability to design individual and small group exercise programs tailored to the needs and attainable goals of specific clients
  • Execute individual fitness programs designed in a safe and effective way
  • Demonstrate a desire to help clients reach their fitness and wellness goals through appropriate cardiovascular, flexibility and resistance exercise
  • Proactively assist members with fitness equipment; train members in correct use of fitness equipment; correct members on use of fitness equipment as necessary

JCC Fitness and Wellness Center Floor Supervisor 

Summary of Position

The JCC is looking for a personable and energetic individual with a keen understanding of customer service and professionalism to serve as a part-time Fitness Floor Supervisor on evenings and weekends. The Fitness Floor Supervisor will have the opportunity to work with clients of varying ages and abilities, and are expected to work effectively with people from different backgrounds and abilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend to and observe all activity on the fitness floor
  • Provide a high level of customer service, taking a proactive approach to member engagement
  • Represent the JCC in a positive, enthusiastic, helpful and professional manner
  • Address member concerns and suggestions in a timely and polite manner
  • Communicate member concerns and suggestions to Fitness Director

The Director of Marketing and Communications provides strategic leadership for all marketing, branding, and communications efforts at the JCC of Central NJ (JCC). This role sets and advances a cohesive, mission-driven marketing vision that serves a diverse ecosystem of internal and external stakeholders – including staff, lay leaders, families, donors, and community partners – across 12+ programmatic areas.

As a key thought partner to senior leadership and department heads, the Director of Marketing and Communications balances big-picture strategy with hands-on execution, translating organizational priorities into compelling narratives and innovative engagement strategies. During a period of departmental transition, they will assess agency-wide needs, communicate a clear strategic vision, and rebuild the marketing function to be responsive, forward-thinking, and aligned with both best practices in the field and the evolving needs of the community.

Youth, Teen & Family Counselor Job Description

Summary of Position

The JCC is looking for motivated and responsible people who enjoy working with children to serve as Counselors in our Youth, Teen & Family programs. Our programs include After School, Enrichment classes, and Vacation Day events. Additional opportunities are available to work Birthday Parties and Kids Night Out events (on weekends and evenings).

The programs serve children from Kindergarten through Seventh Grade during the academic school year. The programs run Monday – Friday from 2:30pm – 6:00pm. Start and end times are flexible on all days of the week within this time. This is a part-time, school-year, overtime non-exempt position reporting to the Director of Youth, Teen & Family.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with children during activities to support their safe and enjoyable participation in counselor-led and specialist-led activities
  • Provide role-model behavior for students
  • Support children’s homework completion
  • Ensure group activity areas throughout the JCC are cleaned up in a timely fashion
  • Follow all safety protocols, including but not limited to walking from place to place, room and bathroom supervision, etc.
  • Take accurate attendance for all arrivals and departures
  • Effectively use applicable technology, including the Playground app to communicate with families and track attendance
  • Adhere to program schedules and ensure children are at appropriate activities on time
  • Support healthy social interactions between children
  • Communicate with and take direction from Director of Youth, Teen & Family

    • Arrive to work in time to ride school bus with children between school and the JCC

    • Supervise children to ensure safe transportation on buses including boarding, exiting, buckling seatbelts, managing behavior
    • Take accurate attendance and headcount for all arrivals and departures
    • Maintain a calm, respectful, and supportive environment on the bus
    • Assist in conducting and supervising bus evacuation drills to ensure children understand emergency procedures
  • Other relevant tasks as assigned

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum education required: High School Diploma (Lead Counselor)
  • CPR and First Aid Certification; JCC will provide courses if needed (ages 18+)
  • Physician health screening, fingerprinting, and background check required (ages 18+)
