Lifeguards

Summary of Position

The JCC is looking for a focused and committed individual who loves the water and enjoys working with people of all ages and abilities to serve as a Lifeguard. The programs serve children and adults of all ages. This is a part-time, overtime non-exempt position supervised by the Aquatics Director. Morning and early day shift availability preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the health and safety of participants through
    • Use of continual, proper surveillance techniques, including all areas of responsibility (indoor pool, outdoor pools, deck area)
    • Use of effective Preventive Lifeguarding as an integral part of this surveillance
    • Equal enforcement and personal practice of pool rules and regulations
  • Perform appropriate rescues, including administering first aid/CPR as needed
  • Follow JCC guidelines for opening and closing pools
  • Present oneself in an appropriate and professional manner at all times, including swimsuit, whistle, JCC Lifeguard T-shirt, rescue tube, and shorts
  • Represent and promote the JCC in a positive manner at all times
  • Test the water in the pool every two hours
  • Restore equipment to their proper locations as needed
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks as needed, such as cleaning stainless steel, sweeping the deck and the pool, and other tasks needed to maintain a clean and healthy environment
  • Complete all required records and reports, such as accident reports, chemical logs, and user logs on a regular basis
  • Attend and participate in quarterly In-Service training meetings
  • Correct and immediately report any unsafe conditions or hazards in the pool area to the Aquatics Director

Qualifications and Skills

  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification
  • Must be reliable and be ready on the lifeguard stand by the start of their shift
  • Ability to enforce pool rules and regulations

Group Fitness Instructor

The JCC is seeking an energetic and motivating certified Group Fitness Instructor, with a keen understanding of customer service and professionalism, to lead dynamic group fitness classes focused on strength training, toning, and full-body conditioning. Personal Trainer

Work Environment

The JCC Fitness and Wellness Center is at times fast-paced and at times less busy, with every day being different from the next. JCC members and guests comprise a diverse population with varying needs. Staff must be able to work effectively with people from all different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions. The temperature in the fitness center is kept colder to ensure members are comfortable during exercise, and music is played constantly.

Principal Responsibilities

The JCC of Central NJ seeks part-time evening and weekend certified personal trainers to join our team of fitness professionals. We have opportunities to work with a wide range of clients including seniors, teens, special needs populations and other populations. Trainers will need a professional attitude and a keen understanding of customer service.

Personal Trainers will:

  • Possess the ability to design individual and small group exercise programs tailored to the needs and attainable goals of specific clients
  • Execute individual fitness programs designed in a safe and effective way
  • Demonstrate a desire to help clients reach their fitness and wellness goals through appropriate cardiovascular, flexibility and resistance exercise

JCC Fitness and Wellness Center Floor Supervisor 

Summary of Position

The JCC is looking for a personable and energetic individual with a keen understanding of customer service and professionalism to serve as a part-time Fitness Floor Supervisor on evenings and weekends. The Fitness Floor Supervisor will have the opportunity to work with clients of varying ages and abilities, and are expected to work effectively with people from different backgrounds and abilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend to and observe all activity on the fitness floor
  • Provide a high level of customer service, taking a proactive approach to member engagement
  • Represent the JCC in a positive, enthusiastic, helpful and professional manner

Member Services Representative (Part-Time)

Position Summary

The JCC is seeking a dynamic and personable individual to welcome and interact with members, guests and staff. As the first person our members, guests, and staff see when entering our facility, the Member Services Representative needs to deliver exceptional customer service. This is a part-time (27-28 hours per week), overtime non-exempt position reporting to the Senior Director of Membership. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8am – 2pm (with 1/2 hour lunch break).

Welcome Experience & Community Engagement

  • Inclusive Hospitality: Welcome members and guests upon arrival, creating a warm, safe, and inclusive environment that reflects the organization's mission

Operations and Facilities

Bus Driver – Part-Time

Summary of Position

The JCC is looking for a responsible, experienced bus driver who enjoys working with children and older adults to transport them to the JCC for programming via a school bus and/or omnibus. This is a year-round, part-time overtime non-exempt position who reports to various Program Directors depending on the season. Approximate work schedule is: Monday-Thursday 5-6 hours per day (broken up between morning and afternoon); Fridays 2 hours (total 25-28 hours per week); summer seasonal schedule may vary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate passenger vehicle on a regular schedule (and special schedule, as needed)
  • Check operating condition of the bus before starting on a trip
  • Submit completed Daily Vehicle Inspection reports weekly to Operations Department
  • Report any operational defect to immediate superior
  • Inform riders about safety practices
  • Provide physical assistance to older adults upon entering and departing the bus
  • Assist older adults with loading/unloading mobility devices such as walkers
  • Utilize technology (smart phone / GPS) to safely and efficiently navigate frequently changing bus routes
  • Use cell phone while at pickup stops to safely stay informed of last-minute passenger changes (do not use cell phone while bus is in operation)
  • Keep interior and exterior of vehicle clean and neat
  • Maintain records of mileage, routes, time and incidents
  • Conduct bus evacuation drills twice each year
  • Maintain current, unexpired NJ MVC required documents (CDL, Medical Examiner’s Certificate, etc)
  • Assist with transporting buses to yearly inspection
  • Bring buses in for quarterly service, and other service appointments as needed

Requirements

  • Must have current, unexpired minimum Class C Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), with P and S endorsements
  • Previous bus driving experience and excellent driving history required
  • Must meet NJ MVC requirements for operating a school bus, including having a CDL holder Self-Certification document along with a Medical Examiner’s Certificate issued within the last 2 years
  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required

Facilities Staff

Summary of Position

The JCC is seeking an energetic, detail-oriented individual to be part of our Facilities team ensuring our facility is clean and safe for our members and staff. This is a year-round, full-time overtime non-exempt position who reports to the Facilities Director. Weekend and evening shifts are available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the overall appearance, cleanliness, and safety of the facility daily
  • Perform routine cleaning and sanitizing of facility spaces in accordance with established custodial standards and procedures
  • Provide daily custodial services within the Early Childhood wing to ensure a clean and healthy environment for children, families, and staff
  • Assist with the cleaning and upkeep of high-traffic areas including entrances, grounds, lobbies, locker rooms, fitness center, gymnasium, etc.
  • Perform basic building maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, tightening fixtures, minor repairs, and reporting maintenance issues to supervisors
  • Assist with snow removal upkeep, including exterior of building, entrances and walkways as needed
  • Respond promptly to radio calls and facility-related requests from staff
  • Secure and close the facility during assigned shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays when scheduled
  • Support room setups and breakdowns by moving equipment, furniture, and materials as needed for programs and activities
  • Read and interpret setup diagrams to ensure rooms are arranged accurately for events and programs
  • Transport, pull, and push chair racks, tables, staging, and other event equipment as required
  • Arrange and reset meeting rooms, classrooms, and program spaces to support daily operations
  • Ensure event spaces are clean, organized, and ready for use before and after programs or events
  • Assist staff with last-minute setup adjustments during programs, events, or community gatherings
  • Support facility needs during large events, including monitoring spaces, assisting with transitions between events, and maintaining cleanliness
  • Attend departmental meetings and training sessions as requested by the Facilities Director or management team

Youth, Teen & Family Counselor Job Description

Summary of Position

The JCC is looking for motivated and responsible people who enjoy working with children to serve as Counselors in our Youth, Teen & Family programs. Our programs include After School, Enrichment classes, and Vacation Day events. Additional opportunities are available to work Birthday Parties and Kids Night Out events (on weekends and evenings).

The programs serve children from Kindergarten through Seventh Grade during the academic school year. The programs run Monday – Friday from 2:30pm – 6:00pm. Start and end times are flexible on all days of the week within this time. This is a part-time, school-year, overtime non-exempt position reporting to the Director of Youth, Teen & Family.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with children during activities to support their safe and enjoyable participation in counselor-led and specialist-led activities
  • Provide role-model behavior for students

  • Ensure group activity areas throughout the JCC are cleaned up in a timely fashion
