John Singer Sargent: Romance, Drama and the Visual World with Janet Mandel, Arts Educator (Part 2 of 2)
Tuesday, May 20, 2025
11:15 am - 12:15 pm
1391 Martine Avenue
Scotch Plains, NJ
John Singer Sargent was an American artist who spent most of his life in Europe. He painted two U.S. presidents, the aristocracy of Europe, the uber-wealthy of America and mythological heroes. He immortalized business tycoons and the avatars of modern culture. But he also painted gypsies, tramps, street children, hard-working laborers and the horrors of war. And he created dazzling landscapes – a visual chronicle of the places he visited. This talk requires two parts to adequately convey the breadth and depth of Sargent’s prodigious and masterful output. The Met is having a large exhibition of his work from April 21 - August 3. Sponsored by the Van Winkle Foundation.
