A perfect way to wrap up this My Best Self series, recovery stretching is an important cool-down phase after a workout that can help your body recover. Recovery stretching helps lengthen muscles to decrease tension on joints and reduce overall pain. There are multiple stretching techniques and this session will focus on two: PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation) stretches and static stretches both of which help reduce pain and muscle tension while increasing range of motion and muscle elasticity, improving your overall quality of day-to-day life. Whether you work out on a regular basis or not, stretching daily is recommended to avoid muscle tightness and range of motion.
Chris Matejek, has his Bachelor or Science in Athletic Training from Kean University. He is a Board Certified Athletic Trainer, Certified Adaptive Personal Trainer and Red Cross Certified Lifeguard. Chris has been working at the JCC for nine years, eight of which have been in the fitness center personal training, private stretching and teaching Power Hour Group Exercise class.
