This non-fiction book explores the author’s grandfather Francis Kalnay’s complex life, from WWII espionage leader to children’s author. Kalnay, a Jewish Hungarian immigrant, overcame a tragic past and post-war secrecy, ultimately fleeing to Mexico, where he embraced a new identity. Through extensive research, Fennelly uncovers hidden aspects of Kalnay’s life, including his Jewish roots and his sister’s murder by Hungarian Nazis, questioning how family secrets shape identity across generations. Proud partner of the Jewish Book Council.
