Why We Argue Badly with Professor Eric English from Pace University
Thursday, January 11, 2024
11:00 am - 12:00 pm
1391 Martine Avenue
Scotch Plains, NJ
In this talk, Eric will draw on both the ancient art of rhetoric and contemporary research to discuss some of the thornier aspects of argumentation and persuasion in the contemporary world: Why are extreme voices so common online? Why are bad arguments often more persuasive than good arguments? And why do attempts to influence public debate seem to backfire so often? Eric English, PhD, is a lecturer in the Department of Communication and Media Studies at Pace University. Sponsored by the Holocaust Resource Center and Diversity Council of Kean University.
