The year was 1935, and the woman was Anna M. Rosenberg, age 33, the New York Regional Director of President Roosevelt’s New Deal agency, the NRA. Once a household name who was regularly voted one of the country’s most admired women (often following right after her friend Eleanor Roosevelt), today, Anna Rosenberg is mostly unknown. Life Magazine called her “the most important official woman in the world” – a woman of many firsts, whose story, forgotten for too long, is extraordinary, inspiring and uniquely American and has never before been told.
