It wasn’t until the 1870s when agoraphobia was first identified; however, years earlier 19th century poet Emily Dickinson began experiencing its devastating symptoms. Fearing mental illness or worse death, her writings reveal its dramatic impact on her life and poetry. In addition to the discussion about Dickinson’s mental health, the presentation will include several of her poems and a brief discussion of how to read a poem.
