JCC Youth Theater Program for 4th-9th grade

It's back!  The JCC Youth Theater Program for ages 4th-9th grade!  A full theatrical experience with stage, costumes, lights, sound and music!   

The Winter production is The Little Mermaid Jr.

Saturday, January 27 • 7:00 p.m.
Sunday, January 28 • 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home — and her fins — behind and live in the world above. But first, she'll have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she's the girl whose enchanting voice he's been seeking.

Audition Requirements
For auditions, please prepare part of a song of your choosing. Please do not exceed a minute in length. (A good trick for this is doing a verse and a chorus.)  You are welcome to sing from the show. Songs can be done with or without a backing track. We will have a speaker you can connect to, or you can send me a link to your music ahead of time. You will not be needed for the entirety of the audition and the order will depend on the order of arrival. Once in the audition room it will take roughly 5-10 minutes. Don't forget to have fun!

Callbacks at the JCC
Wednesday, September 20 4:30 - 7:00 p.m.

Not everyone will receive a callback but all that means is that we know exactly where we want to cast you in the show! Callbacks will be given out immediately after your audition. We will give you materials for the character(s) we are calling you back for. Please just familiarize yourself with the material, we do not expect it to be memorized or perfect!  Below are the callback materials if you would like to review ahead of time.

Tuesdays from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. at Congregation Beth Israel (1920 Cliffwood St, Scotch Plains) 
Every other Sunday from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the JCC

JCC Music and Theater Coordinator: Alora Souza
Alora graduated with her BFA in Musical Theatre from Marymount Manhattan College in New York City. She has performed off-Broadway and regionally in a variety of musicals and plays throughout the tri-state area. In her junior year of college, she began teaching Musical Theater at JZT Dance in Weehawken. In 2020, Alora decided to focus on becoming a full-time theatre teacher. She began teaching musical theatre, dance, and voice at Center Stage Dance and Theatre School, Michele’s Dance Studio and Tuxedo Park Schools. She then became the Theatre Program Director at Hunterdon Academy of the Arts. In 2021, she joined the Camp Yachad family as the JPAC Unit Director and her love for the JCC began. Alora is now at the JCC full time as the Music and Theater Coordinator where she will be working in early childcare, enrichments and camp.
