Born to crushing poverty in the cotton fields of South Carolina, this singular black performer became the toast of cabarets and Broadway before ruffling feathers in the Johnson White House and becoming a cultural icon as Batman’s Cat Woman. An entertaining look at Kitt’s personal life and dazzling career. Sponsored by a grant from the New Jersey Council for the Humanities with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) through the American Rescue Plan Act. Any views, findings, conclusions, or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of the National endowment for the Humanities or the New Jersey Council for the Humanities.
