Italy in the 16th century produced two exceptional female painters, Sofonisba Anguissola and Lavinia Fontana who, while very well known in their own day, disappeared from sight after their deaths. This talk will describe the astonishing stories of these two women and illustrate why the work of one seems to have more relevance for the present than that of the other.
