The Aquatics program at the JCC is one of the best in the area drawing people from our larger community because of its excellent reputation. Our staff of American Red Cross certified swim instructors has taught thousands of children and adults to swim, improve their strokes and love the water. Children who attend Camp Yachad and our Early Childhood programs benefit from our aquatics instruction as part of their camp or school experience. The Barracudas, our award-winning competitive swim team, is an excellent way for children to build confidence, stay fit and be part of a fun-loving, socially responsible group. The Talmud (the central text of Rabbinic Judaism) lists three specific requirements that parents must teach their children. One is teaching them how to swim – ensuring that they have the basic skills necessary to survive. The JCC is a proud partner in this endeavor.

Pool Attendance and Scheduling
New Pool Rules
All members are required to e-sign a waiver prior to using the JCC facilities. You can access your waiver by clicking here. Your JCC barcode will be required.
Missed classes can be made up at the discretion of the Aquatics Department within the session the class is missed. There is no guarantee a make-up class will be available, but the Aquatics Department will make every effort to accommodate the need. Credits will not be issued for missed classes.
If you have questions about the right swim class or swim level for your child, or you think your child has moved up since the last class, you may bring your child in for swim level testing at any time throughout the year. Preschool students, campers and swim lesson participants are all eligible. This procedure will ensure that your child will be taught at the appropriate level. It only takes a couple of minutes for an instructor to evaluate a child’s ability. Contact Malika Abdul-Zahir at [email protected] if you would like assistance choosing the right level.
To help your child feel more secure, you are welcome to stay in the pool area the first day of the class session and again on the last day of the class session. During the intervening weeks, please wait in the pool area for only the first 5 minutes and the last 5 minutes of class. This will allow your swimmer to effectively transition and focus on learning swim skills.
Children under the age of 3 (and older if not toilet trained) need to wear a disposable swim diaper and rubber pants under their bathing suit. Also, please be sure to bring a towel or two. (The JCC provides towel service for $2.00 at the Member Services Desk.) Additionally, goggles are recommended and may be purchased at the Member Services Desk.
In order to ensure the safety of all participants, the following supervision ratios in the pool and pool areas mut be maintained:
Children ages 5 and under are allowed in the locker room with either parent.
Children ages 6 - 11 are allowed in the same-gender locker room at the parent/caregiver's discretion. The JCC reserves the right to require parent supervision on an individual basis.
The Family Changing Room located in the locker room hallway is available for parents who wish to change with their children. Please note that there is no bathroom facility in this locker room.
EATING IS PROHIBITED IN LOCKER ROOMS. PLEASE HELP US KEEP OUR LOCKER ROOMS CLEAN!
Valuables in the Locker Room
The JCC is NOT responsible for lost or stolen articles left in the Locker Rooms, Fitness Center, Gymnasium, Pools, etc. Use the coin-operated lockers in the Fitness Center (adjacent to the treadmills) to ensure the safety of small personal items. Or you can bring a lock to use on the lockers in the Locker Room. Locks must be removed after each use to allow other members to use the lockers, except for those with reserved lockers. Lockers are available for rental; see the Member Services Desk for details.

Sessions of instruction or any form of personal training are to be conducted only by employees of the JCC that are certified personal trainers and/or approved fitness or aquatics staff. No outside contracting or non-approved private instruction is allowed. For more information about personal fitness and aquatics training options at the JCC, please visit the Member Services Desk.
A 100% refund, or one-time transfer to another class within the next 6 months, will be given if cancellation is received via email to JCC Aquatics Director ([email protected]) 10 days or more before the pretest class starting date.
No refunds will be given for cancellations less than 10 days prior to the course start.
The JCC cannot refund any fees paid to the American Red Cross for Blended Learning or materials purchased through the Red Cross.
If the JCC needs to cancel the course, participants will be notified 24 hours in advance and will receive a full refund or full transfer to another course.
Payment of the course fee, completion of Blended Learning lessons and participation in class does not guarantee certification. Students must successfully complete all course objectives and attend all classes to pass the course and be certified as per American Red Cross standards. No refund will be given if a student does not pass the course.
If a candidate fails the pretest of any course they are entitled to a $175 refund.
