Be an Upstander is about Fred Heyman, a local Holocaust survivor, who has done extraordinary things within his community, impacting many lives for the better.  His story describes the Jewish people's darkest times while sending an incredibly powerful message of hope and kindness.   At it's core, Be an Upstander is a story of survival during the Holocaust, of recognizing those who offered help along the way, and of practicing what you preach.

Fred is a key member in the "twin with a survivor" program, started by the United Jewish Council MetroWest Holocaust Council.  This program provides B'nai Mitzvah students the rare opportunity to make personal connections with Holocaust survivors.  Fred has a way with younger generations, and a huge part of his story is about connecting with his "twins."  He has amassed 40+ "twins" over his ten years in the program!

This documentary, the culmination of a long relationship between Heyman and Howard Goldberg, its executive producer and one of Fred's many "twins," is suitable for all ages, and more importantly, has huge impact for all ages.
