Aleena Rieger was born during the Holocaust under circumstances described in her book. Her family immigrated to the U.S. when Aleena was six, shedding traces of their immigrant past. When she had her own children and grandchildren, she wanted to know more about her origins. She will talk about her efforts to uncover missing pieces of her family’s past, her parents’ flight from Nazi-besieged Poland, forced labor in Siberia, refuge in Kazakhstan and the long journey to America. It’s a chronicle of an immigrant family with universal themes of hope, survival and the tenacity of the human spirit.
