FY18 Annual Report
better together JCC Dream Teams – Partner Impact Awards When our lay volunteers and staff join forces, the JCC wins. The combined passion and expertise of these partnerships always produce positive results. In FY18, we began to formally recognize these partnerships with our first annual Partner Impact Awards. Jeff Silverstein, JCC Board Member and Building Committee Co-Chair Alex Skibinsky, Building Committee Co-Chair Mike Goldstein, JCC Executive Director If you think it’s easy to throw a bunch of solar panels on a rooftop and claim that you’ve gone solar – it’s not! Jeff, Alex and Mike, then JCC Chief Operating Officer, spent months and months researching, investigating, evaluating, choosing and coordinating the installation and operation of the JCC’s solar panel system which was completed in FY18. In the end, the work this trio completed has tremendously helped the JCC in its ongoing quest to be environmentally and financially conscientious. t h e r e ’ s s o m e t h i n g a b o u t t h i s p l a c e • t h e r e ’ s s o m e t h i n g a b o u t t h i s p l a c e • t h e r e ’ s s o m e t h i n g a b o u t t h i s p l a c e • t h e r e ’ s s o m e t h i n g a b o u t t h i s p l a c e • June Fischer, Senior Adult Participant and JCC Board Member Barbara Weisbart, Adult Enrichment Director Throughout FY18, June and Barbara worked together – Barbara from a professional point-of-view and June from a personal point-of-view – to procure essential grants for the Senior Adult program. Together they secured over $50,000 in grants over two years from organizations including Iris Teen Tzedakah Grant and the Grotta Foundation. June and Barbara also represented the JCC at Greater MetroWest CARES which helps groups who serve seniors work better together. Sharon Artz, JCC Board Member and Special Needs Committee Member Mallory Zipkin, Camp Yachad Director Sharon and Mallory worked together to forward the JCC’s commitment to individuals with special needs. They served together (and continue to serve) on an Inter-Agency Special Needs Committee with the Westfield Y, the Fanwood- Scotch Plains Y, ARC of Union County, Children’s Specialized Hospital and others. This committee ensures that the community at-large embraces the philosophy of inclusion that is so important to us at the JCC. Stacie Friedman, Board Member Jordyn Barry, former JCC Teen Outreach and Engagement Director In its second year, Teen Action Service Corps (TASC) Inspire was a powerful hands-on way to teach teens how to be community leaders and philanthropists. Stacie and Jordyn worked tirelessly with our JCC teens. In FY18, with Jordyn and Stacie’s help, TASC Inspire raised funds which the teens collectively decided to donate to local non-profits: the Community Food Bank of NJ, One Happy Camper and Imagine. Marnie Nathanson, Early Childhood Parent Committee Co-Chair Courtney Teicher, Youth Program Director On February 24, 2018, our Early Childhood community got together for a night of fun. EC Incognito was the brainchild of Marnie and Courtney who wanted to give parents a chance to get together, enjoy friends, meet new ones and take a break from the rigors of parenting for a night! The event was a huge success – and also raised over $20,000!
