FY17 Annual Report

Our new Early Childhood library is a proud product of the passion and industriousness of our Early Childhood kindergartners, our Early Childhood leadership team’s vision, the drive and creativity of our Early Childhood teachers and the generosity and support from our Early Childhood parents. From inspiration and planning to design and implementation, everyone worked together to make this project purposeful, authentic, fun and successful. WE PUT ONE IN THE BOOKS EARLY CHILDHOOD LIBRARY The Early Childhood Community looks forward to this space being used for reading, relaxation, gathering and learning for many years to come! We welcome your help filling our book shelves through our Library Book Label and Amazon Wish List program – easy to find at www.jccnj.org ! Summer 2016 While looking for a project-based learning opportunity that the kindergarten class could own, the Early Childhood leadership team realized that renovating the existing library was a perfect fit. Fall 2016 Our kindergartners learned about the opportunity and embraced the chance to redesign their school’s library. December 2016 As a next step, the kindergartners took a field trip to both the Scotch Plains and Fanwood libraries to learn more about their design and function. March 2017 Mrs. Taub’s class was responsible for measuring the space, creating the library’s blueprint and May 2017 The Early Childhood Read-A-Thon fundraiser (complete with a host of JCC celebrity readers) raised over $4,000! June 2017 Mrs. Friebly and Mrs. Piesch’s class packed up the existing library to get ready for the renovation. While packing, they organized the books by subject to make it easy to set everything back up. June 2017 The new furniture arrived, everything was set up and the kindergartners cut the ribbon on their new library! May 2017 Mr. Lonny and Miss Robin’s class coordinated and ran a bake sale and lemonade stand to begin raising funds for the library.
