The Camp Yachad Shadow Program, which has been in existence for over 20 years, provides a 1:1 shadow for campers with special needs, aged 24 months through 8th grade, so they can fully participate in the camp experience within a same-age camp group.
Each highly trained staff member provides individually tailored support to their camper to help the camper learn new skills and actively foster camper independence. Although our campers and shadows form a very special bond throughout the summer, the shadow counselor focuses on helping campers cultivate relationships with their peers.
After determining camper needs with families, our staff implements accommodations and supports under the direction of the Director of Inclusion and Diversity.
