The JCC has children’s basketball leagues for children of all ages, run by Gary Schaefer, ex-college basketball player and current middle school basketball coach and elementary school physical education teacher.
The basketball programs for younger children are designed to teach skills and a love of the game. The travel basketball program is competitive. The children’s basketball program includes a co-ed Rookies Basketball League for 1st and 2nd graders, a co-ed JCC/YMCA Basketball League for 3rd and 4th graders and boys' and girls' travel basketball leagues for 5th and 6th graders and another for 7th and 8th graders. The JCC also offers basketball clinics for kindergartners through 8th grade. The youth basketball leagues are open to members only; the basketball clinics are open to members and the community.
Throughout the year, there is Teen Open Basketball in the Eisenberg Gymnasium, a full-size air-conditioned gymnasium. All children are also welcome to play or practice basketball in the gym during open gym time scheduled throughout the week.
