The Ten Shabbat Unplugged! Principles

The ten core principles of the Sabbath Manifesto are specifically created to be open for unique interpretation. The principles can be practiced solo, or in a group. It’s up to you to explore, refine and create!

  1. Avoid technology
  2. Connect with loved ones
  3. Nurture your health
  4. Get outside
  5. Avoid commerce
  6. Light candles
  7. Drink wine
  8. Eat bread
  9. Find silence
  10. Give back

Fun things you can do that involve exactly zero screens

  1. Light Shabbat candles (giveways available in the JCC lobby)
  2. Splash around at the JCC open swim any time on Saturday from noon – 4:45 pm
  3. Dig through all those cookbooks you have. Find a new, challenging recipe and make it
  4. Play in the JCC Eisenberg gymnasium any time on Saturday from 7:30 am – 5 pm
  5. Get outside and meet up with Early Childhood families at Ponderosa Park @ 3 pm
  6. Declutter one room in your home. Get rid of your old t-shirts, those canned beets you’ll never eat, and that Very Important Novel you hated
  7. Try a new group ex class at the J: Zumba, Yoga, Indoor Cycling and Bosu Cardio are all offered on Saturday morning. Check out the schedule at www.jccnj.org
  8. Get moving with your family at Family Fun Boot Camp (ages 6 & up with a parent) - Saturday, March 5 from 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. at the JCC
