The 2016 U.S. Presidential Election with Professor Julian Zelizer

Wednesday, April 6 • 7:30 p.m.
Our presidential campaign is well underway with both parties engaged in heated primaries as frontrunners facing unexpected challenges,  The nation has been closely following what Republicans and Democrats have to say about the big issues of the day. The next president and Congress will play a big role in determining the fate of policies put into place under previous presidents. Big issues, such as immigration and Israel, will be on the agenda. The decision that Americans make in 2016 will have a big impact on the direction of the country.

Julian Zelizer, a historian at Princeton University and weekly columnist for CNN, will put this election in historical perspectives. He will talk about some of the larger issues and forces that are shaping the campaign, the candidates, and the electorate. He will provide the audience with a set of questions that they can use as they follow the general election next fall.

With all that is going on in our country and the world and the election less than a year away, this is not to be missed!

Killing A King: The Assassination of Yitzhak Rabin and the Remaking of Israel with author Dan Ephron

Monday, April 18 • 7:30 p.m.

The assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin by Orthodox Jew Yigal Amir twenty years ago remains the single most consequential event in Irael’s recent history. Dan Ephron’s book relates the parallel stories of Rabin and Amir over the two years leading up to the assassination, as one of them plotted political deals he hoped would lead to peace and the other plotted murder. He will help us understand Israel today, from the paralysis in peacemaking to the fraught relationship between Netanyahu and Obama.

Dan Ephron has served as the Jerusalem bureau chief for Newsweek and The Daily Beast.  He covered both the rally where Rabin was assassinated and the subsequent murder trial.  He now lives in New York City.
