Dawn, a board-certified nutrition expert and contributor to The New York Times Well blog, spent her childhood hungry: craving good food while her over-weight father pursued an endless stream of fad diets and her mother focused on Dawn’s sister. Dawn turned to her grandmother, Beauty, who introduced her to the world of Jewish cooking: pickled herring, rolled cabbage and challah! Dawn learned that good food could be the glue that holds a family together. She will reflect on her upbringing and how food shaped her connection to her family, her Jewish heritage and herself.
