The Outrageous Sophie Tucker
Tuesday, October 20 ∙ 7:30 p.m.Director: William Gazecki
Country: USA, 2014
Running Time: 96 minutes
Before Mae West, Marilyn Monroe, Bette Midler, Madonna and Lady Gaga, Sophie Tucker was the first woman to infatuate her audiences with a bold, bawdy and brassy style unlike any other previous performer. This iconic vaudeville superstar ruled the 1920s Flapper Era in the U.S. Using all of The Last of the Red Hot Mamas’ 400+ recently rediscovered personal scrapbooks, authors Susan and Lloyd Ecker take you on their seven-year journey retracing Tucker’s 60-year show business career in this fascinating documentary. Interviews with Barbara Walters, Tony Bennett, Carol Channing, Michael Feinstein and Shecky Greene are featured, and additional narration for the film is provided by David Hyde Pierce.
