It is with great excitement and pride that we present the Summer Academy for Performing Arts — a unique theatre arts and dance camp experience. A partnership between the JCC of Central NJ 's Camp Yachad and the Union County Vocational Technical School Academy for Performing Arts.
Perfect for middle schoolers (entering grades 5 - 8 in September '12) who are passionate about the performing arts and want to engage in them at a professional level, the Summer Academy for Performing Arts offers campers the chance to learn skills, techniques and repertoire in both theatre arts and dance during daily sessions. Campers get a taste of the "real thing" with access to the Academy's blackbox theatre, dressing rooms, dance and acting studios.
Dance includes:
- Basic Modern Technique
- Jazz Technique and Musical Theatre Jazz
- Movement Improvisation and Beginner
- Movement Composition
- Dance Appreciation/World Cultures &
- Social Dance
Theatre Arts includes:
- Basic Acting Technique/Characterization
- Improvisation
- Scene Study
- Theatre Repertoire
Campers will also benefit from the Academy's amazing Project Adventure™ course. Project Adventure™ fosters personal learning and growth through adventure-based activities (using low and high ropes) which work on physical balance, flexibility, problem-solving and cooperation – skills so important in the performing arts field.
At the end of each two-week session, campers will showcase their newly learned skills in an informal & informative performance. (Parents and families welcome to attend!)
The campsite is the Academy's impressive new state-of-the-art facility on the Union County Vocational Technical School Campus located minutes from the JCC. (Door-to-door transportation is provided.) Campers get a taste of the "real thing" with access to the Academy's black-box theatre, dressing rooms, dance and acting studios. Campers will also benefit from the Academy's amazing Project Adventure™ course. Project Adventure™ fosters personal learning and growth through adventure-based activities (using low and high ropes) which work on physical balance, flexibility, problem-solving and cooperation – skills so important in the performing arts field.
Throughout the day, campers are under the supervision of Camp Yachad staff. This staff, lead by a dedicated Camp Yachad Unit Director, will ensure that the campers are a cohesive unit; staff will help campers transition from activity to activity, supervise lunch and of course, bring the Camp Yachad spirit and culture to this program.
About Union County Vocational Technical School
The UCVTS campus, located in Scotch Plains, serves grades 9-12 in Union County. The school is comprised of five individual schools: The Academy for Allied Health Sciences, The Academy for Information Technology, The Magnet High School , The Academy for Performing Arts and Union County Tech. Early arrival and late stay options at the JCC are available to extend your camper's day. Campers are welcome to sign up for both Camp Yachad and our new Summer Academy for Performing Arts; arrangements will be made for those campers.
